The project's core deliverables, with a plain-language summary of each. Hosted on LSCE ShareBox for now.

Requirement Baseline Document (Issue 2, 127 pp)

Singh, Camy-Peyret, Prunet and consortium

A full state-of-the-art review of satellite methane monitoring: every current and planned instrument (TROPOMI, IASI, GOSAT, CrIS, AIRS; PRISMA, EnMAP, Sentinel-2, Landsat, EMIT, GHGSat; Sentinel-5, CO2M, IASI-NG, GOSAT-GW, Carbon Mapper), the retrieval algorithms behind them, the plume-detection and inverse-modelling methods that turn concentrations into emissions, the validation networks, and an analysis of the global methane budget with the open science questions that follow from it. Useful well beyond the project — this is a reference document for the field.

Technical Note 1 (v3.1, Jan 2026 — retrievals, ~60 pp)

Algorithms, methods and validation for the satellite products: TROPOMI/WFMD v2.0, the operational TROPOMI CH4 improvements, IASI TIR and the joint SWIR-TIR scheme, TIR spectroscopy, and the EMMA multi-sensor merged product.

Technical Note 2 (emissions, ~70 pp)

From plumes to global budgets: hotspot detection and fine-scale quantification, regional inversions (Romania, Scandinavia, South America, Europe), global inversions including OH optimisation and isotopic inversions, and the synthesis against AirCore and land-cover data.

Note: this links TN2 v1, the only version currently public; the summary above reflects TN2 v2. Before v2 is published here, confirm it does not print the SRON dataset access credential referenced on the Data page.

Recommendation: deposit all three on Zenodo under a SMART-CH4 community for citable DOIs that survive a server migration — the ShareBox links above work in the meantime.
